I just posted about Mirage: a dream about a new database from India. To solve our very own Indian problems and to reduce the IT cost burden on the Indian population, especially the lower layers in the Indian triangle.
Why this is required? There are many reasons.
Firstly, Indian Banking and Insurance Industry is mostly dependent on one single database. Secondly, the cost of IT in these organizations are raising. Almost doubling every five years. The results are evident. Look at the NIMs of Indian banks and compare those with the NIMs of pre-IT days.
IT industry must be conscious of the fact that Banking services drives lives of ordinary people and these people ultimately bear the cost of IT.
In addition, India produces millions of software engineers and lakhs of very very intelligent and smart software engineers. Yet, we do not have self-sufficiency in software products, especially system software like databases.
I invite views from Indians, whether they agree with my thoughts or do not.
Has anyone felt the need for a new database, due to feature constraints?
