‘Hollow The Core’ (HTC) is increasingly becoming the catch phrase to carve out the functionality or set of functionalities or even modules from the Core Banking System (CBS) of a Bank and be able to handle them in some manner better than the core to deliver enhanced value and support growth.
One example at a process journey level / functionality is Bulk Tran Processing for Corp Customers, which can be taken out of Core and implemented very much outside the core. Taking such functionality out provides an opportunity to implement the Separation of Concern (SOC) design pattern. Just Separation will not be enough, though. If the implementation of the functionality outside the core is also designed like the Core, the end goal becomes unachievable.
Hence the need to implement the functionality with DAD-SOC : Deep and Differentiated Separation of Concern (DAD-SOC) Design Pattern from Patterns Cognitive ( www.patternscognitive.com). When implementing DAD-SOC we can bring in design patterns to implement both bulk transaction processing and perf related design patterns and this can be implemented with monitoring available banking transactions processing capacity in real time.
Functionality when carved out, will have multiple SOPs (Standard Operating Process) and customer preferences that require to be implemented. These SOPs can be Hyper Automated using BOT Workers. Hence, HTC with Hyper Automation + embedded Performance Design Patterns implemented using DAD-SOC become a very, very powerful approach to provide huge scale and at the same time engineering levers to manage and control spiraling IT running costs of Banks.
‘Narrow The Core’ (NTC), a concept pioneered by Patterns Cognitive is relatively unknown in the industry. However, it is becoming increasingly important to overcome weaknesses in the legacy Core Systems. These weaknesses essentially stem from limited information model, limited functionality and lesser abilities to take in and manage services as per ever increasing demanding customer preferences. Few classic examples are the Corp Customer Info model, Managing Loan Agreements and Service Preferences of Corp Customers in the Core. NTC provides us an option to take the functionality out, provide a richer functionality in terms of info model, functionality and implement diverse customer preferences. The NTC module outside, will have to maintain the limited information in the Core thru interfaces, thus ensuring that any dependencies on them will not be disrupted.
HTC & NTC Design & Solution approach from Patterns Cognitive can enable large Banks to deliver higher levels of performance.
